“Thanks to the classes I took at CCBC, I will start at Rochester Institute of Technology as a sophomore,” said Jackson Wikstrom, Loch Raven High School, Class of 2016, about his Early College Access experience.
Each year hundreds of BCPS students like Jackson take advantage of Early College Access programs at the Community College of Baltimore County. Juniors and seniors can take up to four CCBC credit classes tuition-free and any additional classes at half-price. As early as Grade 9, students pay only half-price tuition for any credit classes they take at CCBC. They pay only fees and for books and supplies.
Students can choose from classes at any CCBC location, online, and even offered at some BCPS schools. Students get a jump start on college credits, many of them entering college after graduation with a semester’s worth of college credits already earned.
That adds up to huge savings, while also easing the transition to college. “It exposed me to a college setting while still in high school,” adds Jackson, who is the host of a video promoting the program at www.ccbcmd.edu/earlycollege. He enjoyed the diversity of students in his classes and learning to meet the high expectations of college instructors.
