With the weather being warmer than the typical January, we hope your school community is actively participating in the Team BCPS Clean Green: 15 Litter Challenge. This is the fourth year that Baltimore County Public Schools and the Education Foundation has partnered with Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz in this endeavor. Your school community is invited to grab some gloves and trash receptacles and join us to participate in this exciting hands-on, anti-littering program.

The Team BCPS Clean Green: 15 Litter Challenge is where BCPS schools compete to see which school communities can record the most 15-minute litter clean-ups and volunteer participation from May 2016 through May 2017. The term school community broadly includes all sorts of groups who choose to designate a particular school to receive credit. Civic or community groups, scout troops, sports teams, faith-based groups, youth groups, businesses, environmental organizations, foundations, and others could be included in these groups.cleanup2

Winning schools at the elementary, middle, and high school levels will be awarded grants to conduct a school-based innovative instructional initiative project that addresses the 21st century theme of environmental literacy. Possible projects could include installing a reading garden or rain garden, planting trees, diverting downspouts, or environmental education projects; creative and innovative projects determine your wants and needs. Opportunities are limitless!

The Education Foundation of Baltimore County Public Schools, Inc. solicited the community to obtain sponsorships in order to award the winning schools funding to continue their efforts.  Through your active participation, you can make a real difference in your school community by participating in this exciting hands-on project. As a project, you will be demonstrating your support for a better environment and a commitment to Team BCPS.

So what are you waiting for?  It’s time to get started.
