Every so often, a person comes along who contributes to the community and inspires celebration. What was once just a simple walk in the country, became the spur to tell the story of our very own public school system.
Author E. Farrell Maddox did just that. In 1993, as a young man, he and his remarkable grandmother climbed a fence and then a hill to find an abandoned building. It was the schoolhouse she attended as a young child. Flooded with memories and with tears trickling down her cheek, she inspired her grandson, Maddox to write “Building the Future.”
Maddox not only wrote this book, but dedicated it to The Education Foundation of Baltimore County Public Schools to help raise funds supporting 21st Century Instructional Initiative Grants to schools and post-secondary scholarship opportunities to students within Baltimore County Public Schools.
Join us on Sunday, May 7, from 2-4 p.m., as we celebrate this wonderful publication through casual conversation. Maddox will serve as guest speaker. So will BCPS Superintendent Dr. S. Dallas Dance and retired BCPS Superintendent Dr. Robert Dubel. Sean McComb, the 2014 National Teacher of the Year, will serve as Master of Ceremonies.
“Building the Future” is a 276 page, full-color commemorative book, showcasing the history of Baltimore County Public Schools in a way that has never been done before.
McComb will lead the discussion with our guest speakers, capturing the essence of BCPS past, present, and future. The discussion will be followed by light refreshments and a book signing by the author.
