BALTIMORE — When students elect to participate in the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program, they are making a significant commitment.

AVID pushes students in so many ways. It is designed to accelerate a student’s academic progress and prepare them for success in college.

After working so hard, 514 seniors from 22 BCPS high schools were able to celebrate the completion of the AVID program May 17 at Morgan State University. These seniors are preparing for their bright futures. And many of them will haveΒ earned college scholarships.

So that would explain why we spotted so many smiling faces Wednesday night. Β Currently, the AVID program is offered at 22 BCPS high schools and 10 BCPS middle schools.

BCPS Superintendent Dr. S. Dallas Dance, a former AVID student, served as keynote speaker.
