Donating school supplies makes a difference for teachers and students

Back2SchooluTOO

Imagine being a student arriving the first day of school with no binders, no notebooks, no calculators. That’s a reality for many Team BCPS students.

Now imagine being that student and receiving needed supplies from their smiling classroom teacher. That also can be a reality.

Once again this year, we are asking the community to donate school supplies as part of Back to School Involves You Too! The supplies will be distributed to Team BCPS teachers, who will have them on hand for those who need them.

We are having two special community drop-off dates. Be sure to visit us:

Tuesday, Aug. 8, from 2 – 6 p.m.
Pikesville Farmers Market
Pomona Square Shopping Center
1700 Reisterstown Rd., 21208
Hosted by the Pikesville Chamber of Commerce

Saturday, Aug. 12, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
First Financial Federal branch
1301 York Rd.
Lutherville, 21093
Hosted by First Financial Federal Credit Union

How we use donated school supplies

New Town Elementary English Language Arts teacher Arlo Horton was able to offer creative writing students notebooks and binders.

Orems Elementary Grade 5 teacher Katie Kirschner said donated school supplies benefit classrooms. Plus, teachers do not have to spend their own money to assist students who need supplies.

Deer Park Elementary Reading Specialist Shanee Monroe-Rice said having donated pens, pencils, highlighters, markers, and notebooks allows students to be at ease, knowing there’s a supply in case they run out.

Tremendous community and business partner support

We’ve been blown away by the response this year from community and business partners. We have more than 90 drop-off locations. A full list of drop-off locations is available on our website.

You can even get a free Chick Fil-A sandwich for participating. Donate $10 in supplies. Go to one of six participating Chick Fil-A locations. Show receipt. Get coupon for a free chicken sandwich.

  • Eastpoint – 7907 Eastern Ave., 21224
